A hint was given for the next challenge. Animals. So where is Nicholas Ng going to have his 4th challenge?
The 4th challenge is held at Farm In The City at Serdang. This means that I would be shooting tame animals rather than wild animals at the national zoo. The challenge for this round is to obtain the following in our photos: action, emotion and creativity. We were given 20 minutes for this challenge and 3 lenses to use. I quickly swap my kit lens to the 50-200mm lens so that I could get a close up photos of the animals. I felt that in this challenge I needed a lot of luck to capture all the 3 requirements as I’m not very good interacting with animals. After everyone completed their 20 minute challenge, the organizer decided to give us another 45 minutes to capture the best photo. At the end of this challenge 3 contestant with the lowest score will be eliminated. Below are the shots that I’ve taken during the challenge. Which do you think is the best?
When the judges saw my my photo, they gave me a few comments on how I should improve. Number 1 was my shutter speed used wasn’t fast enough to freeze the moment. Maybe its because the moment of the swan being together is too fast that I did not have the time to change my settings on the camera. Secondly the background was too bright and was fighting attention with my subject, I could have tone it down a little during post processing. The photo which I had submitted did leave some impact to the judges for this round. Too bad my photos throughout all the 4 challenge was not good enough to keep me in the top 3 and I was being eliminated. At least during my whole journey I’ve picked up some tips here and there and I was exposed to different types of photography. Its also my 1st time actually shooting animals professionally. 1 of the main thing I learnt in the Samsung NX Academy is that the client wont give the photographer a chance to explain their photos. The photos must be able to tell the story itself. Lets watch the video below as this is the last challenge for me.
